Your future awaits!
Studying abroad is a transformative experience that broadens your perspective, strengthens your academic and professional goals, and builds valuable real-world skills. It’s an opportunity to explore new cultures, engage with historic and iconic sites, and challenge yourself in meaningful ways, all while gaining global insights that employers actively seek.

At CCSA, we provide short-term, faculty-led programs during the summer and winter terms. These hands-on learning experiences are designed to be both affordable and flexible, allowing you to expand your worldview without interrupting your academic progress.
Benefits of Studying Abroad
Cultural Immersion
Studying abroad allows you to immerse yourself in a new cultural setting and experience daily life in a different country. This kind of exposure broadens your perspective, increases your ability to thrive in ambiguous situations, and improves your ability to interact with people from various backgrounds.
Whether you try new foods, celebrate local festivals, or learn about cultural norms, these experiences enhance your understanding of the world and build your intercultural competence.
Academic Enrichment
CCSA offers academic opportunities that aren’t available at your home institution or even in other study abroad programs. You can take advantage of specialized subjects, engage in research tied to the local context, or participate in experiential learning like field studies.
Whether you study theater in London, biology in Australia, or interview sugar cane farmers in Belize, hands-on, real-world learning enhances your academic experience. It brings classroom concepts to life in an international setting.
Career Boost
Employers highly value candidates who have engaged in intentional, international experiences, as studying abroad demonstrates key skills such as adaptability, problem-solving, and cross-cultural communication. It shows that you can thrive in unfamiliar environments and work with people from different backgrounds.
The confidence, independence, and global perspective you gain can make you more competitive in the job market, especially as workplaces become more interconnected and globalized.
Personal Growth
Stepping outside your comfort zone and navigating life in a new country fosters personal growth and self-reliance. From managing daily tasks in a new land to adapting to unfamiliar cultural norms, studying abroad challenges you to become more resourceful, confident, and adaptable. This experience also helps you discover more about yourself—your values, strengths, and passions—and leaves you with memories and friendships that will shape you long after the program ends.

Students from any accredited U.S. college or university can join CCSA programs! If you're from a non-member school, CCSA makes it easy for you to participate by registering you for credit through Western Kentucky University. These credits can typically be transferred back to your home school.
To ensure a smooth credit transfer, talk with your academic advisor before enrolling. CCSA is here to support you throughout your study abroad experience, providing guidance every step of the way.
No! While most participants are university students taking courses for credit, we welcome non-credit participant to audit a course. This is a great way for community members, lifelong learners, or anyone interested to experience our programs without the pressure of grades or assignments.
(Note that individuals under age 26 must be registered for credit.)
If you're currently enrolled in a college or university, you’ll need to register for CCSA courses for academic credit. This not only enhances your learning experience but also helps you earn credits toward your degree, allowing you to make the most of your study abroad while staying on track academically. Seniors scheduled to graduate just before the program may be able to participate; speak with CCSA or your study abroad advisor for guidance.
CCSA follows the academic standards of its member institutions to ensure a high-quality experience for all participants. To join a CCSA program, you must be in "good academic and disciplinary standing" at your home institution.
At CCSA, we’re dedicated to providing impactful global learning opportunities tailored to your needs. Our short-term programs, available during summer and winter terms, include 2-week programs in the winter and 2- or 3-week programs in the summer.

Our diverse programs are designed to be affordable, making it easier for you to explore the world without putting your academic schedule on hold.
Applications for winter programs open in February, and for summer programs in August, providing you with the opportunity to plan your study abroad well in advance. With these early application windows, you can take the time to secure any financial aid, scholarships, or travel arrangements you may need, ensuring a smooth transition into your chosen program.
Yes, CCSA offers scholarships to help offset the costs of your experience. Find details on our Scholarships page, where each scholarship lists eligibility criteria and application requirements.
Don't forget to check with your institution's study abroad office for additional scholarship opportunities. Many schools provide financial aid for study abroad, including grants and merit-based scholarships. They can guide you on funding options, application processes, and deadlines. By exploring these opportunities, you can significantly reduce the financial burden and focus on your academic and cultural growth during your international experience.
We also offer flexible payment plans. The further you plan in advance, the more flexibility you'll have.
Yes! CCSA programs are part of your school's regular course offerings, so you can use your existing student loans and grants to finance your study abroad experience.
Campus representatives are available to help you with financial aid information and the application process. They can answer questions about eligibility and required documentation.
Make sure to start your financial aid applications early to avoid any issues and ensure timely submission. This will help you focus on preparing for your exciting study abroad adventure!
As a participant in the winter session, you can enroll in only one course. This approach allows you to fully immerse yourself in a single subject, ensuring a focused and intensive study abroad experience.
In contrast, if you're interested in studying abroad during the summer, you can apply for multiple courses, as long as they don’t occur at the same time. This flexibility provides you with the opportunity to explore various subjects and broaden your academic experience by taking advantage of the diverse offerings available during the summer session.
Be sure to review program schedules to avoid any conflicts, so you can tailor your study abroad journey to align with your interests and goals!

Have questions about what’s included or how your school handles tuition? The CCSA team is happy to help clarify.
Flights are not included in the base program price. Some programs, such as those in Australia and Belize, require students to participate in CCSA’s group travel. This is because in-country transportation is arranged based on the entire group arriving together. Group flight costs are separate; please check your specific program page for details.
International medical and emergency evacuation insurance is included with your program. You’ll find complete coverage information linked in your online application.
For added peace of mind, consider purchasing additional travel insurance to cover things like pre-existing conditions and lost luggage. Also consider purchasing "Cancel for Any Reason" insurance, which covers you in case you get sick or aren't able to travel after payments are no longer refundable.
Yes, for most programs, CCSA allows you to travel independently, making it easy to explore additional destinations or customize your travel plans before or after the official program dates. CCSA will provide clear directions and details about when and where to meet the group at your destination, ensuring a smooth transition.
This option lets you enjoy the freedom of independent travel while still benefiting from the structure and support of the CCSA program. You’ll also receive information on local transportation options, recommended arrival times, and other logistical details to help you navigate your journey to join your peers. This balance of independence and support creates a well-rounded and enriching study abroad experience!
Yes, if your program allows independent travel, you’re welcome to arrive before the official start date or stay after it ends. It’s a great way to explore more of the region, dive deeper into the local culture, or visit nearby destinations on your own schedule.
To do this, select "Independent Travel" on your CCSA application and make your own flight arrangements. Keep in mind that CCSA cannot adjust group flight bookings for independent travelers. You'll need to follow the provided instructions on when and where to meet up with the group, so your plans align with the program's schedule.
Independent travel gives you extra freedom while still connecting you to the support and structure of your CCSA program. Note that CCSA is unable to help with travel delays or other unforeseen circumstances related to independent travel.
During your program, you will have some time to explore on your own. This is usually one day or two parts of days, depending on your course's schedule. You may travel within your host country during this time.
As a U.S. citizen, it's essential to check the U.S. Department of State website for information on the country or countries you plan to visit. U.S. citizens are required to get a visa or "entry permit" for the UK, Australia, and most other CCSA locations. We will help you through that process as part of your pre-departure orientation. This is typically low cost.
If you’re not a U.S. citizen, you should immediately contact your home-country embassy in the United States, as well as the embassy or consulate of the country you're visiting, to find out what documents you need to enter that country. Additionally, reach out to U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis) to learn what documents are necessary for re-entering the United States and to confirm that your travel won't adversely affect your U.S. residency.
Individuals in the U.S. on a student visa should contact their international student office to learn about any requirements or recommendations they have.
CCSA provides medical insurance during your time abroad, so you’ll have access to the healthcare services you need. If you do get sick, the on-site program staff are there to help you navigate any medical needs.
We also work closely with trusted local clinics, pharmacies, and hospitals to make sure you receive quality care quickly and smoothly. These connections help make healthcare easier to access in a new country.
If you have questions or concerns about medical coverage or support while abroad, please reach out to the CCSA Executive Director. Your health and safety are our top priorities throughout your program.
That’s a common concern, especially for first-time travelers, and CCSA is designed with that in mind. Our programs create a welcoming and supportive environment where you’re never truly alone.
Classes are small, so you’ll quickly get to know your professors and fellow students. You’ll have on-site CCSA staff available 24/7 to help with anything that comes up, from navigating the city to handling unexpected challenges. Additionally, our team in the U.S. maintains close contact with the group throughout the program.
We’re here to support you every step of the way, so you and your family can feel confident knowing you’re in good hands while experiencing something unforgettable.
